Betting Preview: The second round of a new La Liga season kicks off on Friday in Seville when Betis play host Deportivo.
Betis are still coached by Gustavo Poyet in this new season and they are coming off a heavy 2-6 defeat at the hands of Barcelona. It was a match in which they just physically couldn't cope with what Barca offered and the winner of the match was never a question. Betis did bad in that game but I will just not point it out as a reference because it was Barca, most teams in the world look ridiculous against them. Antonio Sanabria is one of the new signings for Betis, a player for who they paid 7,5 Million € to Roma. Other new recruits are Aïssa Mandi from Reims, Felipe Gutiérrez from Twente, Jonas Martin from Montpellier, Roman Zozulya from Dnipro or Matías Nahuel and Charly Musonda Jr. who joined on loan. Overall I would say that they have a stronger team this year, but remains to be seen how fast they will get team chemistry.
Deportivo have a new coach in the person of Gaizka Garitano, who didn't really do much at Valladolid last season but who did a good job I remember when he was at Sunderland in England. Based on his first game in charge, I was quite pleased how Deportivo played, so probably he's on the right way. It may have look lucky to some for Deportivo to score the winner from penalty only a few minutes before the final whistle, but in reality thye dominated the clash with Eibar and really deserved the three points. Lucas is still in the team and so is Sidnei in the heart of defence. They didn't really lose anyone important during the summer but got Fayçal Fajr and Juanfran back from loan, Raúl Albentosa from Derby, Emre Çolak from Galatasaray, Florin Andone from Cordoba (4,00 Mill. €), Bruno Gama from Dnipro and also Carles Gil loaned from Aston Villa. I think they have plenty of talented players to choose from and build a good team. The first match with Eibar was good for them and I really like them as underdogs away from home against a team that hasn't proved anything yet and was quite shaky at home last season.
